A ping test measures the "latency" or delay of your internet connection. It sends a small packet of data to a server and measures how long it takes for the data to make the round trip. This time is measured in milliseconds (ms).
- Lower is better: A ping under 50ms is excellent for most activities, including gaming. A ping between 50ms and 100ms is average. A ping over 150ms may cause noticeable lag.
Think of the Domain Name System (DNS) as the internet's phonebook. It translates human-friendly domain names (like www.google.com) into computer-friendly IP addresses (like 172.217.14.228).
